What is reflexology?

How long is a session?

Please allow an hour for your session. This will include time for consultation and treatment which should take about 45 minutes

Do I need to be silent throughout my treatment?

Reflexology is a very relaxing treatment and many clients like to close their eyes and even nod off! However feel free to chat if that’s what you want to do. It’s your treatment, do what makes you feel comfortable

Can I have treatment if I have an underlying medical condition?

A case history will be taken and you may be advised to seek medical advice about whether this is the right treatment for you if you have certain medical conditions. Alternatively check with your GP first that treatment is safe for you.

Will you be able to tell me what is wrong with me?

Reflexologists feel for areas of tension and crystal deposits in reflex points. They will inform you of the areas where problems have been detected but they are not qualified to say why they are there. If you have any concerns about the findings during your sessions it is advisable to seek a medical opinion.

Can I still be treated if I have a verruca or other skin conditions?

Many clients attend with skin conditions that they may or may not be aware of. This is not usually a problem. The reflexologist can use gloves or cover the area with plasters. Reflexology can also be performed on the hands instead

Are there any side effects to a reflexology treatment?

There can be side effects especially after the first couple of treatments. These may include headaches, changes to digestion, changes to mood, sleep disturbances and effect on mood. Side effects are normal and usually last only a day or two. Clients should drink plenty of water, rest and avoid alcohol and caffeine.

How do I get the most out of my treatment?

Try and schedule an appointment which enables you to rest afterwards rather than before a busy work day or strenuous exercise class. Drink plenty of water before and after, and avoid alcohol and caffeine for at least 12 hours after your session.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

It is understood that appointments sometimes need to be rearranged at short notice for unexpected circumstances. Please try to give as much notice as possible so your appointment can be offered to other clients. A cancellation fee will be charged if an appointment is canceled with less than 24 hours notice.

Can I buy gift vouchers?

Yes. You are able to buy gift vouchers for one hour of reflexology treatment. This makes a great gift to introduce family and friends to this relaxing treatment, giving them a whole hour of ‘me time’ away from busy, stressful lives.

How many sessions would I need?

As many as you like! It can be for a one-off treat, a short course to work on a particular problem or help with a stressful period, or on-going as part of a healthy lifestyle.

My feet are very sensitive! I don’t know if I will be able to tolerate someone touching them.

My feet are very ticklish, but I have no problem with having a reflexology treatment. Although the treatment is gentle, the pressure that is used is firm to get to the reflex points deep within the skin layers. The touch bypasses the more sensitive nerve receptors on the surface so doesn’t generate a ticklish feeling. However if you feel uncomfortable about having your feet worked on, I can work on your hands instead.

Reflexology is a holistic complementary therapy. It has origins back 5000 years to foot massage in Ancient Egypt and China, but modern reflexology as it is known today started in the middle of the last century with the discovery that the body parts and organs are represented on the feet and hands. Gentle manipulation of these ‘reflex’ points aims to relax, improve sleep and bring about an improved sense of well being.

Reflexologists use massage techniques on the feet and hands to treat the body as a whole, restoring balance and homeostasis. It can be used as part of a healthy lifestyle and to complement other therapies. However it is not an alternative to medical treatments.
